Blackjack- A Tried And Tested Game!

Blackjack is a game that’s centuries old. Gameplay styles have barely changed since its creation and most of the people play this game and count it as among their favourite.

The gameplay objective remains to get a hand that’s worth 21, or as close to that value as possible and so beating the value of the cards held by the dealer. When players get hands that are worth less than 21, they can either Hit -take another card- or Stand -continue with the cards they were given. The dealer can also Hit if desired. At the end of the game, the player has his/her hand compared to the handheld by the dealer. The winner is then announced.

Basic Strategies In Blackjack

  • Aces, 8s or 9s– when players get an Ace, 8 or 9, it is recommended that they Stand on it, no matter what the face-up card of the dealer might be. As Aces are valued at either 1 or 11 points, this means that a hand with 8 or 9 will be valued at either 9 or 19, or 10 or 20 points respectively.
  • A Hit Or Stand On A 17– in some variants, the dealer is obliged to Hit on a 17. Other variants might, however, stipulate that the dealer Stand on 17. When players get 17, they are given the choice of either Standing or Hitting. This is a difficult choice to make, but on the whole, it’s best to Stand when the hand is valued at 17.
  • A Hand Made Up Of 2 10s– with a hand of 2 10s, it is advised not to split them. Instead, players should Stand, as the dealer is forced to get a Blackjack hand in order to beat this strong hand.
  • 13-16 Points– when players get hands that are worth from 13 -16 points, the decision as to Hit or Stand should be made in accordance with the value of the face-up card of the dealer.
  • 12 Points And Their Uses– when a hand is valued at 12, the player should Hit only if the face-up card of the dealer is worth from 4-10. If this is not the case, the better strategy would be to Stand.
